The Holy Spirit, Our Seedling from God.

              Give a little whistle

From "Pinocchio"

Music and lyrics by Leigh Harline and Ned Washington

When you get in trouble and you don't know right from wrong,       Give a little whistle! Give a little whistle!                                 When you meet temptation and the urge is very strong,              Give a little whistle! Give a little whistle!                                  Take the straight and narrow path and if you start to slide           Give a little whistle! Give a little whistle!                                    And always let your conscience be your guide...

God designed an amazing warning system to help us avoid wrong choices. He programmed His very own moral code into the heart of every man and woman; We are born with it. When a person’s actions or thoughts violate that code, the conscience responds by sending a “No” message to the brain. On the other hand, when the act or thought goes along with the pre-programmed moral code, the conscience says, “Go for it.”
When you became a Christian, a change began to occur in your conscience. The basic moral code that everyone has at birth starts to be overhauled. The Spirit of truth takes up residency in your heart. Then, whether you were aware of it or not, He immediately sets about to reprogram your conscience. Whereas before you had a general sense of right and wrong, (like the real boy Pinocchio became) after you believe, the Holy Spirit began renewing your mind to more specific and complete truths.
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, He is fully God. He is eternal, omniscient, omnipresent, has a will of his own and can speak. He is alive. He is a person. He is not particularly visible in the Bible because His ministry is to bear witness to Jesus Christ.
John 15:26 tells us that When the Counselor comes, the one I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the Father, he will testify about me.

  John 16:4-15 (ESV)

The Work of the Holy Spirit
“I did not say these things to you from the beginning because I was with you. But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth:  it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15  All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
  Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

On this Good Friday, I praise thy father for the gift of that seedling. The seedling He planted within my soul, the seed of the Holy Spirit. And I make the promise to thy father that since with all seeds, it must be fed to grow. I will feed it by reading scripture, seeking 'good' pastoral leaders, who speak nothing but the truth to guide me and by keeping in touch with the Holy Spirit. Amen

Next time you experience one of the following things, stop and thank the Holy Spirit. In doing so, you will develop a heightened awareness of His activity in your life.
