Spititual Warfare ~When the Devil Attacks~

I woke in a cold, clammy sweat to a piercing fear.  The feeling was like nothing I had ever experienced.

As I tried to pray my way through it, the words could barely escape my lips... when they did come, silently at first and then so loud they frightened me.
Yet nothing changed.
And then I began to Praise...
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for my life. Praise you Father for all of my blessings; the ones I have received and the ones you are planning for me in all of my tomorrows.

Praise you Father for my life, my children, my church family and all of my friends...

As I praised  Him, a warm, soft comforting feeling fell over me and I drifted back to sleep....

Many people are not aware of the powerful, unseen evil that lurks about trying to steal their joy. Instead of calling it what it is, a spiritual attack, they seek a glass of wine or the comfort of anyone but Jesus. When they do that they are in fact handing the devil a victory.
And who wants to do that?
The bad news is this...the closer you draw near to God, the bigger threat you oppose to Satin.
The good news is this...Jesus is always there to pull you out of the muck and mire that Satan drags you into and believe me, Satan has strategies in place to take you out!
He targets us through the open doors in our lives, doors we may not even realize are open.
Doors such as our minds; because it is of our minds, that we form our thoughts and our thoughts control the rest of our life. What the mind attends to, it considers and what the mind does not attend to, it dismisses.
Proverbs  4:23  Keep your heart with all diligence,
for out of your heart are the issues of life.

HEART, In the Old Testament, deals with your thought life in over 200 of the 800 mentioned times. Proverbs 23 could also read, Guard your thought life with diligence because it will determine how you live.
Because it is through the thoughts that come out of our minds that we communicate with the Holy Spirit. It is with your mind that you form your social attitudes, your self-esteem (low self-esteem is one of Satan's favorites to attack), your actions and God's word, even your achievements.

Proverbs 23:7  As a man thinks deeply in his heart,
so He believes.

Satan slips in through these doors as lies because he realizes that if he can change or influence our thoughts, he can change and influence our behavior.
His lies are of enticement and deception.
That is exactly what he did to Eve in the garden. He tricked Eve into enticing Adam and then they both disobeyed God.
Because he has no control over our will, he attacks the portion of us that controls that will and attempts to taint our minds and hearts against all things Godly and good in an effort to ruin the plans God has for our lives.
So, we must fully understand that although it is God's nature to influence us with the truth, it is the devil's nature to influence us with lies.
And he is ruthless, he uses anyone he can find to get those lies inside of our minds and hearts because if he can get us to believe his lies we will never discover God's will for our lives. We will never discover that God has written a beautiful story for each of us. Satan is out to destroy those stories, the more he destroys the happier He is.

So how do we defend ourselves? Only the inspired word of God can reveal and defeat the devils lies.
In Matthew 4:1-11 Satan even tires to trick Jesus, but Jesus outsmarted Satan because he possessed all the tools to do so. He knew that he must:

1.Love God's word
2. Memorize God's Word
3. Know God's Word
4. Meditate on Gods word
5. Believe God's word
6. Use God's word  and
7. Live in God's word.

By following  these steps we are able to cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalted itself against the knowledge of God, bringing captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

Satan doesn't just attack your mind, no...he attacks our bodies because they are God's, Temple

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 and because our bodies are God's tool, Romans 6:12-13
and because our bodies are God's treasure. 2 Corinthians 4:7

He causes suffering, often times in the way of guilt. Reminding us of failures from our past, by either tempting us to repeat them or pressing us to believe that we can never be successful in the area we once failed. Sometimes he tries to make us believe that we failed God either by disobeying Him or just by being human. He also targets those who had issues with their own fathers, leading them to believe the huge lie that fathers as a whole are all the same; mean, worthless, liars, abusers, whatever the case. If he can accomplish that, we might possibly turn from God's great love in shame, anger or humiliation or feel a false sense of rejection.
Know that NONE of Satan's lies are true. He is the master of deception. He comes to steal, lie and destroy us. He comes to rob us of our relationship with the one true God and cheat us out of all of the magnificent plans Our Father God has for our lives.

Passion For Truth Ministries

The enemy is committed to making your life on earth as miserable as possible. He knows that if he can exploit your fears, insecurities, and weaknesses then he can cripple your spiritual growth and therefore render you useless to God's Kingdom. Don't buy into the enemy's lies. We are in a war, friends. Put on the armor of God today and stand strong against the schemes of the enemy (Ephesians 6:10-18). ~Jim Staley ~
We must know in our hearts that God's grace is sufficient for every need we could possibly have and that we should Praise Him even in the most difficult of circumstances.
Spend time in His word each and every day and invite Him into every aspect of our lives. Ask Him to change you and take away the pride or shame Satan likes to dine on.
Tell Him you want to become more of Him and less of yourself.
He will be delighted to comply.

When feelings of self-doubt creep in, and they will...

When Satan rips your carpet of self-esteem right out from underneath your feet...and it happens...
When you wake up in cold sweat with his ugly hands gripping your throat or when you feel for even a split second that you are not worthy of every last detail of the plan God has for your life start praising!
PRAISE GOD!  Thank Him for every single blessing in your life from your running water and flushing toilet to your last bag of rice. From your broken fingernail or skinned knee to your loss of job or disease...Praise Him for the children that He placed in your loving care, anything you can think of!
He will hear you and He will recognize your voice and He will be there to help and love you through it. Then you can smile and know that Satan may have tried to steal your joy, but your God was bigger and your love story with God is none of his business.

The attacks on your life have much more to do with who you might be in the future than who you have been in the past. The enemy fears you becoming who God has created you to be. ~ Lisa Bevere ~
